Community Medicaid in Nassau & Suffolk Counties – Personal Care Services in the Home

When an individual needs help with the activities of daily living, to avoid a nursing home and remain in their residence, a benefit often worth obtaining is Community-based Medicaid. Community Medicaid will pay an agency that will provide home health aides to assist with personal care services in the home. Personal care services are the provision of some or total assistance with:

A. Personal hygiene,
B. Dressing,
C. Feeding,
D. Nutritional and environmental support, and
E. meal preparation and housekeeping

A more specific list of personal care services includes some or total assistance with:

1. Making and changing beds;
2. Dusting and vacuuming;
3. Light cleaning of the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom;
4. Dishwashing;
5. Listing needed supplies;
6. Shopping;
7. Laundering, including necessary ironing and mending;
8. Payment of bills and other essential errands; and
9. Preparing meals, including simple modified diets.
